Theme 1: Enterprises

The enterprise perspective: inclusive business model design
Proponents of the Base of the Pyramid (BoP) concept propose that low income markets present profitable, yet complex, opportunities which can potentially lead to improved livelihoods. However, because of the unique challenges which exist in BOP markets, ventures must design innovative, socially inclusive business models to enable successful venture development.

The objective of this research are to increase understanding of how energy access ventures develop into self-sustaining enterprises. We adopt a process-oriented business model design perspective to investigate this issue. Case studies will be conducted in Rwanda, Mozambique, and Kenya focusing on entrepreneurial opportunities to increase household access to clean cooking facilities.
